BURGLARS AT HIKURANGI.
[by 'telegraph.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Whangarbl, Thursday. News has been received from Huker enui of an attempted burglary at Harrison and j Sons' store, which is situated in the same j building as the post office. The marauders forced the window, and shifted the safe to j the floor, preparatory to further removal. j An attempt was also made to remove the j post ■ office;■ safe, , but it ' proved -ineffectual, ! as it is securely fastened to the floor. The , burglars were evidently disturbed in. their work, probably by Mr.: and Mrs. Hill, who,; /live in the adjoining rooms/ and were aroused during the night :by their baby's restlessness. , -
This is the third or fourth attempt to burglarise these premises, and it is the .general opinion that the latest operations ■were those of persons with a fair knowledge of the buildings.
