SWIMMING.
The New Zealand Swimming Association lias decided that the subscription for clubs up to 50 members shall be 10s 6<J, and 50 and upwards £1 Is. This is in addition to the local centre affiliation foe. Scholars' proficiency certificates will now he granted by the N.Z.A.S.A. to scholars swimming 220 yds or more. Schoolmasters, however, must certify that the claimants are learners. Auckland teachers should take up the matter and encourage distance swimming. , _ ■ , The Waitemata (Auckland), Stratford, and Wairarapa Clubs have been affiliated to the N.Z.A.S.A. There is no Auckland representative on the Nw Zealand Council yet. The annual report of the N.Z.A.S.A. states that the season opened with a credit; on the competitive branch of £50 14s lOd, the total receipts being £131 3s 6d and the expenditure £51 0s 2d, with liabilities totalling about £70 in view. Tho £300 Government grant for life-saving has been distributed among the soven centres. "The sum of £66 13s 4d, which the Auckland Association (Regd.) agreed last year to hand to this association has not yet been obtained, but will probably be available this coming season," says the report. Incidentally, it may bo'* recorded that swimming' shows the cleanest record in regard to freedom from the betting evil," says the annual report of the N.Z.A.S.A.
