BOWLING.

The North Island Bowling Association's tournament concluded last Monday, when the citizens' match was decided, tho three prizes going to the visitors. The Palmerston North rink secured first prize. Greenmeadows second, and Thorndon third. Tho Auckland bowling contingent left for Sydney last Monday evening. There were 28 .bowlers, under the managership of Mr. J. Carlaw, vice-president of tho A.P.8.A., and Mr. H. Rankin, hon. sec. Six,,-ladies accompanied the party. Ten clubs aro represented in the contingent. The bowlers will play test matches on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. In a scries of three matches in Adelaide Victoria defeated South Australia by 290 •to 2,56. A Now South Wales team of bowlers is visiting Tasmania. They dofeated Launceston by 97 to 87 and 119 to 75. In the final gaino the visitors won by 86 to 79. At the North Island Bowling Tournament, just completed irt Auckland, writes a Wairavapa correspondent, tho Greytown Club had the honour of possessing in its team, in the persons of Mr. W. O. Williams and Mr. William Udy, the oldest and heaviest members _ respectively of all those who participated in the games. Mr. Williams is 81 years of age, and, in the opinion of an Aticklander, ho can show some of the youngsters a point or two in putting a bowl. There are some cynics who aver that in bowling phraseology a man is a youngster at 50, but this is nob what the Aueklandcr meant. Mr. Udy, who turns the scale at 19st, has been an athletic giant in his day, and holds a Now Zealand record as one who played in senior championship Rugby until he was well over 50 years of age, and who, moreover, scored a try with five men on his back when he was a grandfather The first match in the competition for the Western District Shield, presented by the New South Wales Bowling Association, was played at Bathurst on January 1, between the Bathurst and Dubbo clubs. Bathurst won by 18 points. KARANGAIIAKE V. WAIHI. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Friday.
