CRUISE OF THE GALILEE.
DEPARTURE FROM LYTTELTON.
[BY TELEGRAPH.PR :ss ASSOCIATION.]
Christchurch, Friday. The Carnegie Institution's magnetic survey yacht Galilee left Lyttclton this morning for Callao and San Diego, in order to complete her cruise of the Pacific. A number of the friends of the scientists assembled on the wharf to bid farewell to the party. There was a fresh southerly wind blowing, and the little vessel commenced to set canvas as soon as she was clear of the breakwater. A few minutes later the Galilee had cleared the heads under a cloud of canvas. She set. a course about E.N.E.,' and in an hour's time had dropped hull down on the horizon. The Galilee has a long stretch of 6000 odd miles to cover before she reaches Callao, and she is expected to occupy about 40 or 60 days on the passage. She will afterwards proceed to San Diego and San Francisco to complete her cruise. ' Commander Peters, in conversation with a reporter a few minutes before the vessel's departure, said that he and his party had spoilt a very pleasant time in Christchurch and I.yttelton, Everybody had been extremely kind, and he wished to express his great appreciation of the hospitality extended to the members of the expedition.
