He expresses himself as pleased with the decisions of the Premiers at the Conference on the question of the relations of the States and j the Commonwealth, but disappointed that ! no favourable decision was come to regarding State debts.

While in Queensland, Sir John Forrest made extensive inquiries regarding the sugar industry in the northern part of the State, and says he considers the industry profitable. Some of the planters are depressed, but the outlook for the majority is hopeful. The kanakas have almost disappeared, and are now practically a thing of the past.
