DEFEAT OF SULTAN'S TROOPS.

i The Pretender is a- man named:Omar Zarhuni, but is now known as Bu Hamara. His claim is based on the assertion that he :'s a brother of the Sultan, and that he had! a prior right to the throne. Ho began' operations to unseat the Sultan in 1902, and soon had a large following. In December of that year he inflicted a severe defeat or* the Sultan's troops, the remnant of which! took refuge in Fez. The Pretender was defeated in the following month, and ho turned the tables again in February, 1903. There! was constant fighting throughout that year, j and it has continued intermittently until now. In March of last year the Pretender's cavalry appeared in the vicinity of Fez.
