THE TIMBER INDUSTRY.
PURCHASE OF THE CLAYMORE.
Messrs. Parker-Lamb, Ltd., o£ Auckland, have purchased the steamer Claymore from the Messrs. McGregor. The steamer is to be used for towing rafts of logs to Auckland from coast ports, in conjunction with the company's steamer Akaroa,. The Claymore was built at Glasgow in 1902, to the order of the McGregor S.S. Company, and after being employed in the coastal trade for some time was laid up. A few months since she was chartered by the ParkerLamb Company for towing purposes, and as she proved herself an exceptional vessel for the trade the company purchased her.
The Akaroa has recently undergone an extensive repair' and overhaul at Auckland, [something like £700.being expended on the steamer by the company.
The great increase of the timber business in Auckland has made it necessary for the'Cbhipariy'io koep~pace with it." Byj the purchase of the Claymore the company will be able to keep their mills fully employed with timber from the coast ports.
