TRADE VIEWS.
EMPHATIC OPPOSITION.
Mr. M. Foley, chairman of the Licensed Victuallers Association of Auckland, told a Herald representative yesterday that the association had. thoroughly considered all aspects of the recommendation made by the Licensing Committee, but there was unanimity of opinion amongst those engaged in the trade against the suggested abolition of barmaids. While the association was anxious to comply with the wishes of the administrative body in all matters pertaining to the licensing laws of the land, and the proper management of licensed premises, they had passed a resolution courteously declining to inaugurate the reform under present conditions.
A member of the Executive Committee of the association, who one of the leading hotelkeepers, stated emphatically that he was opposed to prohibiting female labour in the bars, and that he would use all his influence at- the Association's meetings to frustrate any . attempt made to bring about such a change in existing conditions. .
