"HUMAN HEARTS" COMPANY. Pathos and comedy are strongly intermingled in the American comedy-drama, " Human Hearts," which will be produced on . Friday: night next at His Majesty's Theatre for a season of eight nights. Thft story of the .wronged and upright Tom Logan, who, baok in the hills of Arkansas, loves not wisely but too well, which leads to his undoing through the machinations of his wife, and her: former lover, ■, Frederick \ Armsdale, is well contrived, and the atmosphere of the story is cleverly retained. •' The! management claims that "the company engaged is one of the "strongest yet seen.in Auckland. Mr. Ernest Leicester, a dramatic artist of repute in London, is visiting Australasia for the purpose \ ! of •:■' playing ; his original creation of Tom Logan in the English production of the drama. The "villain," Mr. George R. Montford, can claim a distinguished career in his line of work, while Miss Valentino Sidney is a lady of exceptional experience; and played the "lead ", with Mr. Edward ; Sass in South Africa in an important round of London successes. The tour is under the direction, of Mr. Edwin Geach, and the piece is pre-' sented by arrangement with Mr. J. C. Williamson. The box plan will open this morning at Wildman and Arey's. "" *
OPERA HOUSE. A crowded holiday audience witnessedthe performance of Eulier's Vaudeville Company last night. All the new turns were well received, and encores were frequent. The same programme will be given to-night and throughout the week. : THE ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY. ; The second concert- of the season ; will be given by the Auckland Orchestral Society in the Choral Hall on Thursday. The soloist will be Mr. Barry Coney (who is leaving Auckland for Europe shortly). The orchestral numbers will include Massenet's Fete Boheme," the second • and fourth movements from Tschaikowski's great " Symphoni Pathetique," Liszt's " Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2," the entr' acta from "Mignon," and the overture to ," Zampa."
