DROWNED IN THE WAIROA.
An inquest was held at Dargaville on Friday on the body of Nathaniel Martin Robinson, drowned in the, river on May 18. Woolsey Allen stated that he was a passenger on the Waiwera on the night of the 18th ult. He had his back toward the deceased when the, latter fell overboard. Witness called out. "Full speed astern." The engine was l - reversed in a second or two. '■'■; The steamer went " back and searched, but could find nothing. .Witness could not say the man was sober. The only way he could account for the accident was that deceased might have dozed off to sleep. The propeller could never have struck him. Evidence was given by other witnesses to the effect that; deceased was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. The jury, without, leaving the room, resolved that deceased was " Accidentally drowned in the Wairoa." Deceased, who leaves a widow and 10 children, was born at Countv Antrim, Ireland. He had been 22 years" in New Zealand, and was married 20 years ago. :.;'■." . " ■.[,■
