OTAGO UNIVERSITY.

THE TREASURER'S STATEMENT. [by TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] DunKdin, Monday. Dr. Shand, treasurer to the Otago University, submitted a statement of the finances to the University Council at today's meeting. "The statement showed that the income was £46 13s 9d less than last year. There was a decrease in fees, both in the mining and medical schools, and the treasurer stated that a decrease in fees in the mining school was to be anticipated as the school could not be expected to flourish so long as it was living under the threat of impending extinction. The net deficit' for the current year was estimated at £180. ■ • The Christian Students' Union applied to the Council for a small site on which to erect a building for the use of the students at a cost of £2000, which it was proposed to vest in the Council, subject to some control by the Christian Union students. Consideration of the request was postponed so that further information might be given. Meanwhile the Council expressed sympathy with the movement.
