PROPOSED PARK AT GREY LYNN.
CONDITIONS OF THE OFFER. ; Tire proposal to provide a public park for Grey Lynn was considered by the GreyLynn Borough *Council at; its meeting last evening, when the report- of the committee on the subject was considered.. The proposal was referred to in the Herald of Thursday last. The terms proposed by the Bank of New Zealand, the owners of the property, were, " That the hank convey to the Grey, Lynn Borough Council about 30 acres, including streets, forming : part of the Surrey.Hills Estate, conditionally. the borough . accepting dedication of all streets, and undertaking to form and construct the same at its own expense in ac- | cordance with the standard at present ! adopted in the borough, within four years from the date of execution of the deed, to be entered into between the borough and the bank in this connection. In order to enable the, borough to place this proposal before the .ratepayers- and to obtain from them! the necessary [authority; ' s to raise a special loan sufficient to provide for the formation and construction of ; said streets, the bank is willing to reserve from sale the land now offered to the borough upon the above terms for,a period of four months from May 15, 1907.'• . It.was .decided to authorise Mr." J. B. Reed/ the Council's solicitor, to confer with Mr. A. Hanna, solicitor to the Assets Realisation Board, with a view to have the pending proceedings against that body postponed until next sitting of the Supreme Court.
The Council at its committee meeting passed the following resolution : — 1. That this Council having heard His Worship the Mayor in regard to the proposals from the Bank- of New Zealand re the handing over of certain land and roads as a reserve, is of opinion that, the Mayor should take such steps as arc necessary for the purpose of giving effect to such proposals, and (2)- that this Council places oh record its appreciation of the eminently successful services rendered to the borough by His Worship the Mayor in connection with the offer of the Bank of New Zealand, and that the thanks of the Council be and are hereby tendered to His , Worship for such services. - V The report of the committee meeting was presented to the Council last evening, and adopted, Mr. A. A. Creamer, dissenting. . ' ' • -,' If the proposal is carried it will save I the borough a considerable amount of ;money by. rendering certain costly engineering works unnecessary; it will also pre-! vent the erection of dwellings of an in- , ferior da in the gullies and will provide an , open space in a residental area, which is being rapidly , built upon all around the proposed park. . The proposal will be put before the ratepayers at a public meeting. _
