Massey, M.H.R., has consented to deliver a political address in Huntly on Monday evening, June 10. ' ' During the fortnight ended Friday last the mine employees worked 11 shifts, the pay for the period thus being comparatively good. The supply of railway waggons has been well maintained, the company having been enabled to supply, their regular customers, though several orders, which have been standing for some time, have not yet been overtaken. Whooping cough and influenza appear to be pretty prevalent at present in the mining township. Mr. W. &. Evans, deputymanager, and Mr. W. Smith, underground manager, of the Taupiri mines, havo been incapacitated for some time. -'

A social, organised in aid of the funds' of St. Anthony's (Catholic) Church, and which proved to be a pronounced success, took place on Friday night in the Volunteer Hall, which was comfortably filled. Masic was supplied by Miss Fairweather (piano) and Mr. W. Darby, jun. (violin). An excellent supper was provided by the ladies of the congregation. During the evening vocal items were given by Mrs. B. Stewart and Miss Faiweather. Mr. P. Hassett was secretary, and Mr. A. Barry M.C. These officials were splendidly backed .up by a strong committee.
