. Berlin, May 31. The Diet of Brunswick has elected Duke Johann Albrecht of Meeklen-berg-Schwerim as regent.

Prince Albrecht. of Prussia, elected regent in 1885, died last year. On his death the true heir to the Duchy, the Duke of Cumberland, excluded in 1885 because of his claim to the throne of Hanover, ottered to withdraw his own rights, and those of his oldest son, on condition that his second son succeeded. The Kaiser, however, refused to | accept this offer.
