I HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS.
* BE ' Prince of Wales will celebrate his fortysecond birthday today, and with him a large Tjortion of the residents of the. British 'Empire. The birthday of the Prince of Wales has been observed as a holiday for many years now, but with the inauguration j of Empire Day (May 24) many business places decided to close on that day 'and keep open on June 3. In Auckland a, large number of places observed Empire Day as a holiday and while some will also observe today' most- of them will be open. - /.:' The banks and insurance offices will be closed All Government .offices, will also be closed', and no business will be transacted at the Customs Department. The telegraph offices will observe the hours given in the official list for holidays, and, in addition, | telegraph and telephone offices which do ! not usually open on holidays will be open between nine 'and ten o'clock in the morn- . inc. The post office will observe the holiday closely. , The principal attraction for the day is the second day's racing of the Auckland Racing Club's Great Northern Steeplechase Meeting, : at Ellerslie. ...
