Mine. Sarah Bernhardt is suing the New York World for damages to the amount of £20,000. The paper had accused her of passing herself off as the author of her " Memoirs," whereas they were in reality written by MM. Frederic Mayer and Staton. The New York World further asserted that most of the anecdotes related in the memoirs were extracted from old newspaper articles.. Mme. Bernhardt denies these charges.
