Residents of Poverty Bay have long been dissatisfied with the name of their district. There is now an organised movement afoot to have it altered to one more euphonious and less depreciative. A vote is to be taken upon several suggestions that have been received, and the Mayor of the district is to act as returning officer in the settlement of the vexed question. The names to be put to the vote (they include, curiously enough, the present title—probably, it is suggested, with the idea ot showing by the state of the poll in how little esteem it is held), are as follow :Advance Bay, Agessinazzer Bay, Bay of Prosperity, Bonnington Bay, Cook's Bay, Cook Bay, Cooktown Bay, Cookland Bay, Endeavour Bay, Excelsior Bay, Fleecetown Bay, Golden Fleece Buy, Gisborne. Uold«borongh Bay, Hillsborough Bay, Hopetown Bay. Huiraugi Bay, Imperial Bay, Kai Oro Bay. Premier Bay, Prospect Bay, Prosperity Bay, Prosperous Bay, Royal Bay, Silvery Bay, Tasnrnn Bay, Townley Bay, Tuahine Bay, Te Ran Bay, Turangamii Bay, - Tamil) eru. Bay, Victoria Bay, Waimata Bay, and Waikanae Bay. * . Twenty-four only. The " Gibsor; " tightfitting three-quarter jacket, in assorted gray's ■ and greens, at 39s 6d.—John Court, Ltd., Queen-street.
