IMPRISONMENT FOB SLY GROG-
SELLING.

Invehcap.gill, Friday. Mr. McCarthy, S.M., delivered reserved judgment to-day in the case of Margaret McAuliffe,' charged with sly grog-selling at the Shamrock Hotel. Defendant had been previously convicted of keening liquor for sale in a no-license area. The magistrate found the charge substantiated, and sentenced accused to three months' imprisonment. Mr. Solomon gave notice of appeal. The hearing of two other charges against the same defendant, one of selling liquor and the other of keeping it for sale, were adjourned after hearing' the evidence for the prosecution,.because evidence was not sufficient apart from that on which the previous conviction was obtained.
The hearing of the cases against Jeremiah Hartnett and William Meikle, for assisting in the unlawful sale- of liquor, were similarly dealt with. John Thompson, Michael Small, Joseph Cummings, and George Ellis were charged with being on McAuliffe's premises at the time the search warrant was executed, contrary to section 188 of the Act. Cummings was convicted and fined 40s, and costs 7s.'
