Dr. Robertson reports a slight improvement. to-day in the condition of the man Boyer, who attempted to take his life on Saturday night last. • The hearing of the., compensation case, Waihi Printing and Publishing Company v. the Waihi Borough Council, was concluded at a late hour last night. The Court reserved judgment. At the Police Court to-day, before Messrs. Pattullo and R. H. Holmes, J, P.'a' Aftdrew Lund was charged with having on the night of Thursday, May 16, stolen from Mrs. Nicholson, proprietress of the Gladstone Boardinghouse, Kenny-street, the sum of £5. Sergeant McKinnon, conducted the prosecution, and detailed the robbery and circumstances which had led to the arrest of accused. It- was shown in the evidence that Lund had visited the boardinghouse on the night of the robbery, when he , had asked to see one of the boarders; also that he was subsequently in possession of a considerable sum -of I money, for which, according to the police, he had not been able to satisfactorily account, while his statements as to his movements about the time of ' the'-'crime had been inconsistent. v The Court, however, regarded the evidence, which was purely circumstantial, as insufficient on which to convict, and Lund was discharged.
