, THE Auckland Crown Lands Board met-yes-terday, there being present: The . Commissioner * (Mr. J. Mackenzie). . Hon. W. W. McCardie, M.L.C-, Messrs. ''-J'.' 1 Benshaw, A. It. Harris, and M. W. Armstrong. Bangers' Reports: The rangers' reports for the month of April- were received. Ranger Ewen recorded that he visited five holdings in the village hamlets at Avondale, of an area of '10 acres. Improvements required, , £150; improvements effected, £465. All were residential. - Banger Steedman-reported that . he visited holdings containing 5700 acres in the Coromandel, Hastings and Whitianga survey districts. Improvements required, £1151; improvements effected, £1267. There were four defaulters as to improvements' and two,as to residence; two were residing and 11 were exempt from, residence. Hanger Shannon reported that he visited 10 holdings in the. Kaeo survey district, etc., containing 1384. acres. . u ; Improvements ... required,. ~ £141; effected, £517. Two were defaulters as to improvements and one as to residence; four were residing, and three voluntary and two were exempt.. Hanger Kensington reported I that he , inspected 14 holdings, containing 3262 acres, in the I Tauranga- County. ' Im- '. provements required, £791;. effected,. £850. • There were 11 defaulters as to residence and two as to improvements and residence, and one exempt from residence. Hanger Jordan j reported that ;he inspected 18 holdings, coni taining an area of 6145 acres, in the Wnarei papa and Orahiri survey districts, etc. , Improvements required, £680; improvements ! effected, £4288. There were two defaulters | as to improvements and three as to residence, (and one as to both; seven were residing and •seven were exempt from residence. ■ Banger :! McKay reported that he inspected 26 holdings, containing an area of 3446 acres, in the [parishes of Wairua and Kaiwaka. Improve- ' ments required, £1912; improvements effected, ' £2093. There were three defaulters as to I residence and one as :to residence and improvements; 41. were residing and, was ■voluntary. I Applications Eefused: It was resolved to | refuse the following applications-of the ilikurangi Coal Company, under section 117 of the Land Act, 18% for the six acres , l of surplus Crown land lying between sections | (N.L.) 36 and (N.) 40, Hikurangi, parish, and | offer the same on a, year-to-year, lease' in ; terms-of.-section. 116 of the same Act, at 10s ; per annum for the grazing only; that for I section 20. Block I.; parish .' of- Totara, it II being decided to- withhold it from sale or ilease, as it was reported as gum-bearing: .that of Mr. Jas. Fleming, of ' Bulltown. Waihi, for'so acres n6a'ynvaihi« as the "Warden does not recommend such leases to be ! given within a two-mile . radius of Waihi; that of Mr. Bickett, for'the quarry site, at the foot of Tararu Creek, Thames, it being , agreed to recommend the gazetting of the 10 acres as a quarry site, after survey, the plan of, survey to be provided by the Thames County, and the reserve to be vested in that body; that of Mr. A. J. Lobb, of Bulltown; ; Waihi, for 50 acres in Block XI., Ohinemuri survey district, under the Hauraki pastoral , regulations, in the terms of the Warden's , report; and that of E. H. Irving, for a miscellaneous -lease over about : 200 acres at . Omahutu State . forest, as the grazing rights should be reserved for the; put-chasers of i the timber within the Omahutu.State forest. ' Mount Wellington Quarry Reserve: The . Mount Wellington Road Board applied for . lot 4, section 12, suburbs of Auckland,-to be vested as a quarry reserve in the Board. 1 The matter was left to Mr. Harris" to report. > ■ Thirds: .
