AUCKLAND EDUCATION BOARD.
The meeting of the Auckland Education Board, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs. L.. J. Bagnall (chairman), F. W. Lang, M.H.R., G. Edgecumbe, J. D. • McKouzie, C. J. Parr, H. J. Grcenslade, M.H.R., A. . R. Harris, J.-Stallworthy, M.H.R., and C. T. Barriball. Accounts: Th© Finance Committee's recommendation for payment of the following accounts was approved:—Administration, £663 12s 3d; building, £558 153 lOd; manual and technical, £172 17s. ■■•>"-■■■■ •Repairs: The architect was instructed to invite tenders for roofing the school' buildings at Pukete, Waibeke, Grecrton, Makotu, Waipu Central and Upper, the old portions of Helonsvillo and Kohekobc, and teachers' houses at Papakura and Drury. _ Supplementary Readers: Sanction was given to a suggestion made by the chief inspector for" the use of' supplementary readers in certain schools. Piako Valley School: The Minister authorised acceptance of tender of Messrs. Good and Gordon at £247 10s for the erection of a school building at Piako Valley. The tender was accordingly accepted. Resignations: The resignations, of Miss 11. M. Lane, assistant at Grafton Road school, and Mr. W. H. Davy, pupil-teacher at Otahuhu, were accepted. • Payment of Teachers' Salaries: A letter was read from the-Minister, stating that he had inquired into the proposal. for the payment of teachers' salaries through tho post office,, and. from information obtained, he gathered that there was no necessity to alter the present system. Suggested Drill Instructor :"• The Assistant Masters' Association [ recommended tho appointment of a' competent drill instructor. The secretary reported that, where tried in tho past, the system of drill instruction as proposed had proved a.failure,,. Tho Board decided to inform the association that there was no necessity to make, such an appoint.-, ment as suggested as present. Teachers Appointed: Tho Teachers' Selection Committoo recommended that the following appointments be authorised by' the Board:— A. J. Shepherd, assistant master of the Hamilton. West district high school; iVtiss Jessie, Earle, assistant, Parnell school; Miss Dora E. Moor, assistant, Mokai school; Mr. F. B. Doweling, teacher, Otakco and Waiomio half-time schools; Mr. Samuel E. Meredith, teacher, Mangaroa school; Miss Hannah"-Gallagher,' pupilteacher, Rotorua school; Mr. Rupert E. C. Frost, pupil-teacher, from Rotorua to Otahuhu school; and Mr. Harry F. Hall, pupilteacher, Beresford-street 5 school... The , recommendation was approved. ■'■;> i .. ."; ; Substitute Teachers : On. the recommendation of tho Teachers' Selection Committee, it. was decided to employ the following substitute teachers:— Dargaville, :. two months, Miss-*L.-F/- j'Ao'roa; four months, Miss ; M. A. T. 'Small; 'Whangarei Heads, six weeks, Mr. Arthur C.Moor; Hamilton West, ono month, Mr. '■ Arthur J.' Hall; Ponsonby, one month, Miss M. V. Speight; Parnell, one month, Miss A.
