SALVATON ARMY.

NEW VENTURES CONTEMPLATED. INEBRIATES' HOME FOR AUCKLAND. [by TELEGRAPH. own correspondent.] Duneden, Tuesday. In conversation yesterday with a reporter, Commissioner McKie, of the Salvation Army, -who"■; is at present ■■■■ on a" visit to Dunedin, " stated that ; the Army's latest movement was in the direction of establishing inebriates' homes. It has established , such homes in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and the, success of these institutions has been such that it iis contemplated adding to the number by erecting another in Auckland. In fact, p"ov,ded that land suitable for the object can be procured, inebriates' homes. will; be established in each centre in New Zealand.

"We do not," said the Commissioner, " deal with! so-called curative drugs unless they are specially asked for by inmates, but prefer to rely upon .physical exercise and moral suasion. In the near; future the Army will, put up a home for children •in .Christchurch, also . a new 'Prison Gate Home' ; n Wellington. Before Christmas we shall have a ' metropole' in Wellington, , witn over 200 beds, and with a large diningroom containing , all the latest -.improvements, .■.where, meals *■ will be procurable at very low rates. We are not, going to run this much-needed institution 'as a business speculation, but should there be any profits' they will be applied to the orphans' and women's rescue home funds. Everywhere throughout this island our congregations have increased, our membership 'has grown, and our finances ; show, an advance. The Army was never more solid in Australasia than it is at the present moment. On all hands we are making provision in the < shape of buildings suitable for our many operations, both for children and adults."
