SOUTH ISLAND TEAM SELECTED. [Br TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. . The following have been selected to represent the South Island in the football match against the North Island at Christchurch on June 3:—Backs, Turtill (Otago),: Deans (Canterbury), Booth (Otago), Fryer (Canterbury), Eckhold (Otago), Burns (Canterbury), Dansey (Otago); forwards/Hughes (Southland), Carlton (South Canterbury), Casey (Otago), Paton (Otago), Clark (Southland), McDonald (Otago), Johnston (Otago), Wade (Westland), Dennehy (Westland). Sixteen names are given here, and the Southern selectors are to decide which man shall retire. . - • The North Island team leaves for Christchurch on Friday or Saturday. WAIHI V. KATIKATI. [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Monday., On Saturday, at Katikati, a junior Rugby team from Waihi was defeated by the local fifteen by 3 points (a penalty goal to nil). % OTAGO RUGBY UNION. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Monday. At a meeting of the Otago Rugby Union to-night it was decided not to apply for any. portion of the -£200 set apart by the New Zealand Union for the encouragement of Rugby football in the primary schools. It was also decided to demand an apology from the University Club for criticisms of the referee in the match on May 18. Failing an apology by Thursday next the Referees' Association will refuse to appoint referees for the University Club. KARANGAHAKE V. WAIKINO. [BT TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Monday.; At Waikino, on Saturday, the Rugby football match between the Karangahake and Waikino senior fifteens was won by the former by 8 points to, 5. For the winners Dufty scored a try, which he converted, and "also kicked a penalty goal. For the losers G. Shaw .scored a try, E. Montgomery adding the extra points. THE WAIUKU CLUB. The Waiuku Football Club has divided the district into three divisions, Waiuku East, taking the name of the Otaua Club, Waiuku West (Waipipi Club), and the Central, taking in the township (City Club). The first contest took place on Saturday, when a j hard struggle took place between the City | and Waipipi teams. The game ended in a. draw, neither side scoring. Mr. M. Aldred acted as referee. On Saturday next Otaua and Waipipi will. try conclusions. HUNTLY V. RANGIRIRI. Under the auspices of the Lower Waikato Rugby Union the match Huntly v. Rangiriri was played on Saturday on the ground of the farmer club at Harrisvilla. Though play was even throughout the Rangiriri team scored a try in each half, neither being converted, the game ending: Rangiriri, six; Huntly, nil. ;.
