MAY QUEEN.
INTERIM RETURN OF £322 FROM 203 LOADS. r ..-.-.; [BY telegraph, —own CORRESPONDENT.] - Thames, Saturday. The May Queen Company has now been registered for; the purpose of taking over the property of the New May Queen Company and winding-up tho affairs of the old company. An interim cleaning up took place at tho battery during the week, with the result that gold was banked to tho value of £322 18s 3d, being the proceeds of 208 loads of quartz crushed from the stopes. Work has been resumed in the face of the St. Hippo crosscut at No. 5 level, which is passing through the main slido, and,' 1 although the flow of water percolating through the slide is -considerably ' reduced, there is still sufficient to make the rubbly quartz, of which the slide is chiefly composed, somewhat lively, thus rendering caution necessary in passing through it, which makes tho progress slow. There is a large quantity of rubbly quartz coming to hand from this work, which carries favourable mineral, and looks well, but no gold has yet been seen in -it. It is intended to treat a trial parcel of a few loads at the battery during next week, to ascertain its value. Stoping operations on the No. 4 lode above Nos. 6 and 5 levels; are being continued with about the results, and. the crushing, at; the battery, is -proceeding-as "usual with 22 head of stampers. * ■' '*•:• '-•;:•- ■ v:-
