ARBITRATION AWARD CRITICISED.
[by telegraph.—press association.]
. .. Dcnedin, Friday. A meeting of the Otago Employers' Association was held yesterday; when the secretary / (Mr. W. - ; Scott)" addressed the members on the trend of matters in connection with the administration of the Arbitration Act, as / indicated in recent rulings and awards of the Court. The only resoluton that was passed had reference to an award delivered by the Court in a dispute which was heard before it at its last sittings 1 in Dunedin, " That this meeting' views with alarm the innovation introduced by the Court in the felt-hatters' trade, in which the principle of weekly employment has been. embodied in the award and granted in a manufacturing trade to workers who are in receipt of overtime rates; and, further, that this meeting is of opinion that the industries of the colony have now more than they can bear,, and that if an addi-' i tional burden is ; placed! upon them in the shape of fa full week's pay, whether worked in the whole or in part, it will undoubtedly cripple many of •;the, struggling, industries*, and be to the ; detriment, of all workers and employers alike; that the matter be referred to the New, Zealand Employers' Federation, with a view to concerted action being taken to protect the industries of the colony from any additional burdens."
