EXIT THE EXHIBITION
MANY APPLICATIONS FOR WORK. [BY TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] ' : Christchurch, Monday, i The contractor for dismantling the Exhibition buildings began work to-day with a gang of 40 men. Already great progress has. been made. About 300 more men were waiting to be employed, and were much disappointed. This number, though large, is no indication of want of employment, as the Labour Bureau manager says there is plenty of work if men care to go into the country. The applicants at the Exhibition buildings to-day were mostly | men who want to stay in town. Mr. Hagger, inspector of factories, says that if the men alleged ,to be looking for work called at the Labour Bureau to-mor-row he was safe in saying that a large number would be accommodated in a few days. It was a striking fact, however, that there were a number.of unemployed who absolutely refused to leave town and would not take work in the country. ■ :
