The ; strike at the mines of the Rand has created such a condition of unrest, that the Government has considered it desirable to warn the volunteers to hold themselves in, readiness for mobilisation. : r The Government has decided that order shall be maintained, and that intimidation of men inclined to work shall be prevented. : ; (Received May 17, 11.27. p.m.) Pretoria, May 17. A serious strike disturbance took place yesterday at the' Langlaate ■-Deep' mine.
As the' non-union men,were pro-: ceeding to their .work they: were,, stoned by the strikers, and a strong force of police.was called out.
