AN INCORRECT METER.
" . WATER SUPPLY TO GOVERNMENT • BUILDINGS. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCTATION.] ; : '. Wellington, Wednesday. Judgment was given this morning by Mr. Justice Cooper on a motion for a 'writ of mandamus to compel the Napier Borough Council to supply water from the municipal supply of the borough to the Government buildings at Napier, or, alternatively, for a writ of injunction restrain- - ing the defenders . from . cutting off , the . supply. The Court held that the Govern- ■ ■. Kent had a right to expect the municipality •to supply the public buildings with water from the public .service, so long as i, the Government was prepared to pay a reasonable charge. The defenders had, without reasonable grounds, cut off the supply, and the Court had power to make the injunction claimed. An order for in- > junction was issued, with 10 guineas costs. His Honor expressed the opinion that •', I' the borough's water meter did not register correctly, and the Government had been asked to pay for what it did not consume.
