THE WEATHER.
A ROUGH TIME AT SEA. Thk weather on Saturday and yesterday •was' very cold and wintry, the wind blowing from the south-west with frequent ' heavy rain squalls. All oversea vessels .arriving on Saturday and yesterday report having had to contend against strong head winds and seas in the Tasman Sea, whilst • vessels arriving from East Coast ports also report the same conditions of weather. The s.s. Miowera, which left Gisborne on • Saturday at twenty minutes to four p.m., did not reach Auckland until shortly after four p.m. yesterday, the passage thu« occupying about 24i hours. As soon as the East Cape was rounded on Saturday evening the steamer fell in with strong west-north-west winds and heavy head seas, wliicu prevailed until port was made, the steamer's progress having been much retarded. \ ~ . ■, A strong westerly gale was blowing on the west coast throughout Saturday night and most of yesterday. The Takapuna, from -New Plymouth to ' Onehunga, experienced a strong beam sea, but arrived in port yesterday morning almost up to time. It was thought the Rarawa would have a fairly rough trip last evening on her way to New Plymouth.
