NORFOLK ISLAND.

[from our own CORRESPONDENT.] The Island mail steamer Indun'a, Captain Voz. of Burns, Philp, and Co.'s lino, arrived from Sydney and Lord How*- Island on the afternoon, of the 6th hist. The mails and passengers were landed next (Sunday) morning', and the cargo the following day, resuming her voyage to -the. Islands the .same afternoon. The Induna experienced extremely heavy weather after leaving Lord Howe Island, but beyond flooding the decks nothing serious eventuated. The steamer had on board 120 repatriated kanakas, for distribution in the New Hebrides. The missionary yacht. Southern Cross, Captain Sinker, arrived from Auckland on the 9th inst., bringing Mrs. Wilson (Bishop Wilson's wife) and family and other passengers. The missionary steamer had an anxious time of it. on the passage down. Off the Three Kings she was struck by a cyclone, and about 30 tons of coal on deck had to be jettisoned and most of the ship's stores were lost. In the height of the storm a man was washed overboard. A lifebuoy was thrown to him, and after manoeuvring a little the vessel .steamed alongside and picked the man tip again. The Southern Cross sailed for the Islands on the 11th inst.. with the following passengers: —Misses Kitchen and Ollerenshaw, .Mrs. Bell and three children, Revs. hens, Nind, S. Howard, Messrs. Palmer, Cotton, Kensie, Christian (2), Bailey, and 76 natives, and is expected back about the beginning of June. A rifle match took place at Anson Bay the other day, between a team composed of the superintendent and members of ttlie local constabulary and one from the cable staff, the- latter team winning by a narrow margin. Addie Hagar Quintal, daughter of Mr. Joe Quintal, died of tuberculosis on the 20r.h ult. Weather conditions for March: Barometer, highest on 3rd, 29.900, lowest on 28th, 29.510; thermometer, maximum 87, minimum 67; rain on 16 days, 4-.llin; winds, easterly 24, westerly seven' days.
