LOSS OF A COAL HULK.

SINKS IN 30FT OF WATER

Lyttei.ton, Saturday. The Blackball Coal Company's hulk Blackwall lay at No. 4 Wharf last nigkt, receiving coal from the s.s. Petone, and discharging coal into the dredge Manchester. At half-past eight p.m. the men working at the forward end of the hulk noticed an inrush of water, the vessel having sprung a leak, it is supposed through the opening of a seam. The water gained rapidly, and in twenty-five minutes 'the hulk sank in 30ft of water. All on board got ashore.

The Blackwall is insured for £2000 in the Alliance Office, £1000 on hulk and £1000 on the cargo. She had 1300 tons of coal on board when she sank.
