VOLUNTEERING NEWS.

AT Penrose on Saturday, the Victoria Rifles fired the first stage of their annual competition for Schapp's Belt, and Mcintosh and Anderson Cups. Lieutenant R. Cox leads for the belt with 95, followed closely by Private W. Cox with 92, and Privates McCarthy and A. Watson with 91 each. Private J. Preston leads with 90 for the Mcintosh Cup. Private E. Parley, a young shot of very great promise, heads the Anderson Cup competitions. The conditions under which these competitions are fired are—Ten shots at 200 yds, 500 yds, 600 yds, and 700 yds, with one sighter, not to count. The following are the scores: — Schapp's Belt: Lieutenant Cox, 47 at 200 yds, 48 at 500 yds. total 95; Private W. Farley 87, Private E Jackson 68, Sergeant Gibson 59, Private H. Jackson 08. WEBSTER BROS.' CUP. The match for the Webster Bros.' Cup was fired on Saturday at Penrose. The conditions of the trophy were: 10 shots and one sighter (not to count) at 200 yds and 500 yds ranges, the trophy to be fired for annually, and never to be won outright. The companies competing for the cup were: No. 8 Company G.A.V.. No. 9 Company G.A.V., and the Engineers. Each team entered an exceptionally strong team. The shooting throughout was good, and after ft very interesting and exciting match, No. 8 Company won by a small majority. No, 9.Company finished next with a total of 764 points, and the Engineers third with a total of 706. The following were the scores at the different ranges : — No. 8 Company: 408 at 200 yds. 382 at 500 yds, total 790. No. 9 Company: 412 at 200 yds, 352 at 500 yds, total 764. Engineers: 376 at 200 yds, 330 at 500 yds, total 706.
