MAHARAHARA COPPER MINE.
A party, consisting of Mr. J. Thornes (chairman of directors), Mr. Francis Hull (broker for the company), and some of the shareholders, accompanied by Mr. John Coutts (Government mining inspector), left by the s.s. Rarawa, on Saturday, for the purpose of making a thorough inspection of the property, which consists of 320 acres, near Woodville. At present a, stiff of men are engaged cleaning out the old workings, preparatory to more extensive development work being undertaken. The supervisor (Mr. H. F. Shepherd) telegraphed on Saturday:"Selected SOcwt, of about £12 per ton value, some worth £30, from the shaft in two days' work ; more showing." The supervisor also reports by mail : — The contractors for clearing the" low level have completed a further length of 333 ft of their contract, making a total length- of 567 ft. Their present face is about 20ft along the crosscut, which is gradually bearing round to the right. The contractors say that another 120 ft to 150 ft should sec the lode.
