MEETING

SAILORS' HOME.

Tin-: monthly meeting of the council of the Auckland Sailors' Home was held last evening. Mr. 11. Peakn presided, ami there were also present: Messrs. T. Gresham, T. 11. Giles. P. .1. Nerheuy. E. Phipps, E. H. Poller. Return of inmates: The return of inmates for the month was shown to be 46.5. as against 37.3 for the preceding month. Finance: The secretary reported house receipts for the month to total £176 Is 6d, and disbursements £168 3- 3d. The amount owing for lodgings was shown to be an increase, of £17 10- 9d. Annual picnic: It was decided to adopt the recommendation of the House Committee to hold the annual picnic at Motutapu, in conjunction with the Scottish Band. The president and Messrs. Gresham, Xerhcny, and Giles were appointed a Picnic Committee. Resignations and appointment-: Mr. G. Higgins tendered his resignation as a member of the council, and in accepting it the council passed a vote of thank- to him for his past, services. On the motion of Mr. Gresham, Dr. King was appointed to fill one of the- vacancies on the council, and he was further elected a member of the House* Committee. Mr. P. M. Mackay was also appointed to the council, and to the Finance and Mis-ion Committees. Billiard table suggested: Mr. Giles gave notice of motion to the effect thai the time having arrived when a 'billiard table is essential to the requirements of the home, the manager be empowered to receive .subscriptions towards th'> cost of a table.

ONE-TREE Hl]/. DOMAIN BOARD. The annual meeting of the One-tree Hill Domain Board was held on Wednesday last, Mr. Chas. Bagley (chairman) presiding. The annual report, stated that everything in connection with the Domain was in good order. Amongst the improvements to the Domain were roads ami drives, paths, seats for visitors, gat'. fencing, caretaker's lodge. planting of ornamental trees, etc. It was inteimed during the coming year to construct, a return drive. The balance-sheet -bowed receipts amounting to £242 Is 9d. including balance of £36 14s Til from last year, while the expenditure amounted to £186 7s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £55 l-ls. .Mr. Chas. Bagley was re-aopomted chairman. The Minister for Lands wrote stating that, Sir John Logan Campbell and Mr. Kobt. Hall would lie re-appointed to the Board. A vote of thanks was passed to Sir J. Logan Campbell and to all who assisted at the opening of the drive. It v. as also resolved to thank the Mayor of Onchuiiga (Mr. Rowe) for his efforts in connection with the £100 promised by Sir Joseph Ward towards the completion of the drive.

WATHI BOROUGH COUNCIL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRKSt'ONDKNT.] Alii I, Friday. (At, the fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council, hold last night, it was resolved that the, engineer be granted a month's leave .>. iib-cnee owing to illness, • iie> foreman of works to net in his stead, in order to carry on the works already in hand. Tenders for tho removal of the hand rotunda were received, .and that of !>'. N. Davies (£l9 10s) was accepted. The tender of J. MeGrath (£251), for the formation of Symond-street, was accepted. The tenders in connection with the repairs to Tauranga bridge were received, and that of K. N. Davies (£44) was accepted. Consideration of the tenders in connection with the supply contracts were referred to a special committee, consisting of the Mayor, town clerk, and Mr. Evans. The manager of the National Bank wrote advising that he had credited the district fund account with the sum of £1621 3s 7d, 'being the amount received' as gold duty for the December month. He also advised that the sunns of £179 18s 9d and £956 10's had also lx'cn credited, the amounts being goldtiel.ds revenue. Mr. R. B. Lambert wrote advising the purchase of 7739 ounces of gold from within the borough of Wiiihi. Mr. A. T. Kenrick, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, advised that he had shipped 87020z of bullion produced from within the borough. Owing to the number of men and boys who frequent • the river without proper bathing dress, it was decided to place warnings along the river bank. Reference was made by Mr. Foster to the urgent need of a proper system of drainage, and he moved, "That, as a first step, the question of a contract for channelling be referred to the Works Committee." Mr. I. Murray, borough valuer, forwarded the valuation list for the ensuing year, showing that the ratable value amounted to £33,226. an increase over Ihe previous year of £4-175. The resignation of Mr. Rabbidge as gas manager was accepted, and reference having been made lo the good work lie hail done in the installation works, it was decided that a testimonial, setting forth the value of Mr. Rabbidge' services, lie given under the seal of the Council. A discussion ensued over a proposition by Mr. Donaldson, that consideration lie given to the question of the duties of the gas manager, for which applications are invited, but the motion was lost.

The Auckland Provincial Dairymen's Association are taking advantage of a conference of managers and others interested in the dairying industry to 'be held on the 28th ins!" and will hold a meeting of their association at a time and place which will be announced at the conference. i.Vt this mooting of the association the principal subject for discussion will be the wilder show, and it is hoped that in view of so important a matter a good attendance will be present.
