THE BRITISH ARMY.
REDUCING LONG SERVICE MEN. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright. (Received January 28, 9.32 p.m.)
London, January 28. The Array Council has issued a circular to commanding officers with reference to the excessive number of re-engaged men serving in the ranks. It points out that the reserve-produc-ing power of the army is diminished by a large proportion of soldiers serving for pensions while the expense of the army is proportionately increased by these long service pensions. The Council considers that the proportion of re-engaged men should not exceed 10 per cent.
