j [FKOJf OUR OWN COHRESPONDENT.j Thk ordinary meeting of the To Aroha Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. R. L. Soniers) and Messrs. K. Devey, Bpence, 'I'. Mclndoe, and J. Howe. Hiss M. Cillctf wrote complaining of the annoyance caused by tin? noise emanating from the house connected with the electric lighting plant erected near her residence, and .sluing that unless the building were removed she would be compelled to take proceedings to have the nuisance abated. The clerk was instructed to reply that the Council could not accede to her request, but would ascertain if the electrician could do anything to minimise the noise complained of. The foreman of works reported (.hat a pipe in the sewer in Rollcston-street had been burst bv the pressure of flood wa'cr. Revived that the Tourist. Department be requested to have the necessary repairs effected. The foreman reported also that a quantity of boulders and shingle had accumulated in the creek ooposite the tire brigade station, and recommended that it !x> taken out and broken tor road metal. Referred to the Works Committee. It. was resolved that the woodden culvert near Father Keegh's, in Wluttakci'-sticet, be renewed witn pipes. Mr. Mclndoe moved, " That the Tourist Department tie requested to pay half the cost of tarring the footpath between the Domain gate and Shaw's cross road, and to put. in a set of surface tUes to protect the footpath from soak age from the Domain." Cairied. The Tourist and Health Djpur'mont wrote with reference to the balance of £68 15s (claimed as due on account of grant for waterworks ex tension!, stating that the grant was one of £ for £ on the amount expended bv the C uinci) Mr. Spenco suggested that it be 'again pointed out to the Department that the Premier had distinctly promised a vote of £300. as the works were chiefly necessitated by the large consumption of water by the Department, pud mentioned that, more recently Mr. Donne had confirmed this in conversation with t.he Mover and others. He moved in the direction indicated. Mr. Howe moved an amendment to the effect that all correspondence with the Department regarding the balance due shall now cease. Th" amendment was carried. There was a very strong expression of opinion that Te Aroha was being treated very cavalierly by the Department, and that while the local body was doing its utmost to improve the borough as a health resort it met with no support from the Government, whereas money was lavished without stint on other places oi a similar character. A motion hr the Mayor to the effect that, a strongly-worded "communication lie sent by the clerk to the Department, on the subject was carried. The Mayor moved that the Conned endorse the recommendation of the joint committee, that the Ken rick-street site be adopted tor the traffic bridge. This was seconded bv Mr. Howe Mr Davey moved as an amendment, " That it be a suggestion to the committee that op the score of economy the Bridge-street site be adopted." Hi was not seconded, and the motion wa' then carried.
