On the first charge Lubbe was imprisoned for three months with hard labour, and on each of the two theft charges to 14 days/ imprisonment, he sentences to lie concurrent. ( The adjourned meeting of the Hospital Trustees to consider the question of the appointment of a medical superintendent was held this afternoon. The motion Irefoio the meeting was that a hospital surgeon be appointed at a salary of £300 a year, Hie surgeon to be permitted to practice within the borough, and also to bo required to attend to charitable aid patients. Mr. McDonald moved an amendment, ' "That- a, house surgeon lie appointed at £150 a year, ana that an honorary staff lx- appointed " A , amendment was defeated, and Mr. Mathews then moved a further amendment, " That a note be sent to the doctors of the district asking them if they will consent to act on the honorary staff." After discission this was carried, and the meeting adjourned till Friday week to await the medical men s replies.
