OBITUARY.

MR. J. M. LAXOX.

Mr. Jokn" Mclntybb Laxox, grain and produce merchant, died yesterday at his residence, at Newmarket. The deceased was the third son of the late W. S. I.axon, of Otaliuhu, and the grandson of the late Dr. iv m. Laxon. . Ho was bom at Papatoitoi in 1863. Ho was employed at Auckland Roller Mills until 1880, when ho commenced business for himself, in which he continued until his death. Deceased was a member of the Newmarket Borough Council for about five years, and was four times Mayor. At the time of his death lie was a member of the Auckland Harbour Board and the One-tree Hill Road Board. He was vice-president of the Newmarket Bowling Club, and for many years a member of the Rcmuera Bowling Club. Ho was a member of tho Masonic craft, and past president of the Board of Benevolence of the New Zealand Constitution. He leaves a widow and four children (two girls and two boys). The deceased was a man of sterling character, and his genial disposition won for him a. large circle of friends. The funeral will be a Masonic one,, and will take place to-morrow. MRS. ANGUS. The sudden death of Mrs. Angus, wife of Mr. John C. Angus, of EJlerslie, will bo regretted, by a large circle of old friends. Deceased, with her parents (Mr. and Mrs. Watt) settled in Ellerslie fully 40 years ago. Mrs. Angus was of a retiring and unassuming disposition. MR. JAMES CARADUS. Mr. J as. Caradus, an old Auckland settler, who arrived here by the Duchess of Argyll, in 1842, died at his residence in Na-pier-street yesterday, in his 84t.1i year. The deceased formerly carried on the business of a ropemaker, and thus was one of the first to be associated with the flax industry. Ho exhibited some specimens of dressed flax at the Crystal- Palace Exhibition in 1851, and was awarded a medal tor the exhibit.. In later years he followed the occupation of a carpenter, but for some years past he had lived a. retired life. He was a member of tho Wesleyan Church, and /or some years was a regular attendant at the church in High-street. He leaves a widow ami three sons and four daughters, as well as a large number of grandchildren.

DEATH OF A WELLINGTON SOLICITOR,

Wellington, Sunday.

Mr. John Anderson, of the firm or' Duller and Anderson, solicitors, who had been in ill-health for a. considerable period, died hero' yesterday, aged 59 years. He was horn in London, and was articled to a. barrister in that city, At the age of 29 he came out to New Zealand under engagement to a legal firm. Later on ho took a fancy for the sea. and for some- years acted as purser on steamers trading or; the coast. Settling in Wellington In- was placed on the staff of the Native Department, after which lie entered Sir Wall Bnller's law office. About 10 year* ago he entered into partnership with Mr. A. I*. Bniler. The deceased gentleman has left a, widow, a son (Mr. H. E. Anderson) and two daughters.
