COLLISION AT GREYMOUTH.
STEAMER CRASHES INTO A DREDGE. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION".] Gketmouth, Thursday. A collision* occurred on the river this afternoon, between the s.s. Hawea and the Harbour Board's dredge. The Hawea, whicn was timber-laden, was leaving for Lyttelton, and had fairly swung into the river, when she went around astern. The captain gave instructions to drop anchor, but Hie vessel was carried round with the stream, and crashed into the dredge, which was badly damaged, the ladder being carried away. Some of the crew, on noticing the danger, dived into the river and swam ashore. The dredge was towed to the cattle wharf. Tho Hawea was not damaged and proceeded to sea. The damage to the dredge is estimated at £500.
