Berlin, December 3. Hep.p. Bebll. in his speech in the Reichstag on Saturday on the barbarities committed by German officers in the Cameroons, further declared that special efforts had been made to shield Dr. Peters Sand Herr Puttkamer from charges of ill-treatment of natives. He accused Counts Arnimericwen, Kardoff. and Arent of corruptly abusing their positions as deputies in order to bring down officios who were too actively probing the colonial scandals.
This statement caused great disorder in the Reichstag. Herr Bebel refused to withdraw, though Count Arent, one of those attacked, denied the accusation.
("Received December 4, 10.28 p.m.)
Berlin*, December -1
During the debate yesterday in the Reichstag on the questions raised by Herr Bebel's attack on colonial administration more instances of shocking cruelties by officials in the German colonies were given, and a stormy debate took place. The Secretary of the Colonial Department (Herr Dernberg) protested vigorously against members creating the impression that the colonial officials were mere beasts.
