Dr. Thomas, an aeronaut, was about to alight after making a perilous ascent in Georgia, and as he was holding the ripping cord with one hand the balloon suddenly reascended a thousand feet. Dr. Thomas climbed the cord inch by inch, ripped the gas envelope, and alighted safely, though he was dragged some distance through the entanglement of the cordage.
