THE VICTORIAN LOAN.
AN OFFER FROM LONDON. -4 J PER CENT. FOR MONEY. By Telegraph.— Frees Association.Copyright. Melbourne, November 2. TiiK Agent-General for Victoria (Mr. Taverner) reports that he has been advised by the London and Westminster Bank (financial agents for the colony) that it has arranged for the payment of 4£ jilt centum on money sent to London for the redemption loan in July. The amount available is between £500,000 and £600,000. Some of the money which is now paying three per centum will be available in a few days, and the rest win be locked up till February.
Victoria has to arrange for the redemption in 1907 of loans amounting to £4,000,000. Sir. Bent hopes to raise half of this amount locally. Recently he offered to redeem a large part of the loans at once if the holders would give a discount. He pointed out that holders might prefer to do this in view of the present state of the money market. Apparently it has been arranged ttiat the redemption money is to be sent to London, and there placed on fixed deposit at 4j per cent.
