A deputation of bookmaker, and' turf . commission agents waited upon the At-torney-General (Mi. Wade) yesterday, and asked that the lav regarding betting should .;' t not be enforced in respect to'bets in connection with the Caultield Cup and Melbourne Cup until the latter race had been run. They would be willing then loyally to observe the law, but obligations had been entered into in, connection with varioup "' doubles at the late Rand wick and Melbourne meetings, and many of. their clients who had " got a leg in" at Rand wick might desire to hedge or otherwise protect their position. . _ .... The Attorney-Genera] of New South Wales has notified the proprietors of the Mel- ■ bourno papers and their Sydney agents, : that if. their papers are circulated in New South Wales : they will ~ have 'to comply y < with (he provisions/of the Gaming Act, • which prohibits the publication of betting, news.
