'Tenders: Tenders were received as fol- ; lows: For excavation and formation of: Jervois" Road 1 and fixing kerbs and dian- i , nets, John t Irvine (Avondale), £785 17s 3d; 'T. Billington (Auckland), £771 10b; -• LD. Finnane (Ponsonby), £569 17s 2d; and • for supplying." kerbs arid channel-stones '; J t > Jervois Road: B. Irvine (Avondale), kerbs, 2s 5d per foot, and channel-stones, 6d per foot (Avondale stone), total £943 , 7s lid; and W. Coldicutt, H. Slight, and I J. The >J: ' tenders were referred to the Streets Committee, the engineer, to report. . ~:, Motor Fir© Reel: Superintendent Woolley reported having given the motor fire- '; waggon a trial with a. weight of men and ■ appliances of 1 ton scwt, and the motor : ; ran at the rate of 35 miles per honr. Th« i alarm bell from the central station'on to the valve-keeper's house at Khyber Pass reservoir would be installed about Saturday. The report was approved. :, o 1 Abattoirs >.ater Supply: The Mayor announced that the deed in connection with the water supply to the abattoirs had at last been completed. Two-more points had cropped; .tip, ' but they r-were'l settled satisfactorily, and'he moved, that the deed , bo executed. The motion was carried, councillors applauding the termination of ■ > the long drawn-out negotiations. Streets Committee Report: The following recommendations of the Streets Committee . were adopted :—That the footpath in front ' of Mr. McKeown's premises, 'in Georgestreet, be completed, at a cost not exceed- ' ing £50, including kerbing and channelling, 415 ft on south side, from Wood-street to , Costley-street ; that the engineer .prepare plans for permanent levels for Philips- . » street, and to cut down the street so as to ' enable Mr. F. Tonkin to obtain access to ~-'. r 'r> his property, "at a cost of- '£15 ;»;that the application of Mr. J. Faulder, the Council to pay the cost of connecting the , drainage of his new, premises in Karangahape Road with Che sewer be declined; that' Mr. , Casey, and the city engineer have ' power to order a sample dust-cart of a new type; that the engineer report on the question of the supplying of salt water for the Albert-streot baths, and for street watering, and on the question of providing, ;| a disinfector at the destructor. r Waitakerei Waterworks: The Streets Committee recommended that ■ a , tramway, be constructed in connection with the Waitakerei waterworks, and that a contract for the work be let to Messrs. Cairns and Holt V Riot hers for £345 lis. This was adopted. : W5: Dog Registration; Fee:, The fee for the „ registration of dogs for the year was fixed at ss. ■ • " --'-■: .'"■■■•.•■'■.' ■ ■.•■• Supplying Water to Remuera: In re- ;>' sponse to the inquiry by the Remuera Road Board if the Council was prepared to sup«ply the Board with water rby meter, the ■ Streets Committee recommended that a rei ply be sent that the Council was prepared to supply the water at the present by-law" rate of Is 3d per 1000 gallons from the , ,s Mbunt' Eden reservoir, and when the, water 1: extension scheme was completed in about 12 months the Council would be in a position •' to. consider the reduction of the charge to a lower rate. Mr. Entrican asked if the Council was in a position to supply; the water at the present time. The Mayor replied that it would.,be a few months before ■'■'■■''■■•, the water pipes would be laid down by the >. '.; Board, and by that time the Waitakerei extension would be completed. The Council ~, ran no risk in the matter. An amendment by Mr. Entrican, "That the Board be informed that as soon as the Waitakerei sup- .." ply was available the Council would supply them with water," lapsed for want of a seconder. The recommendation was adopted. , - ■ Waitemata-street: The Mayor moved, . "That a conference be arranged between • representatives from the Auckland Har- •- hour Board, the Gas Company, the Streets . '■' / Committee of the Council, and representatives of those interested, with a view to discussing the continuation,of Waitematastreet. Mr. Parr seconded the motion. The motion was carried., The Dust Nuisance: Mr! Tudehope suggested that inquiries should be made from the authorities in Bal main (Sydney) as to an experiment to combat the dust nuisance' -' which had proved successful. i :. > „- < Electrical Engineer In reply to Mr. ;>; Knight, the Mayor said applications would probably be called for an electrical engineer next January or February. » Locked Tramway Doors: On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, a reply was ordered to be sent to Mr. Goss, stating that the Council did not Bee its way ' to alter the existing arrangements regarding locked tramcar doors at the ■ motorman's ; end. ■•■ : , " ■ ■ >- :
