Mr. Etaxs, Premier of Tasmania, in an in* terview to-day, said ho looked forward with a shudder to the time when the. revenue Tasmania derives from Tattersall'a sweep* has to be given up. Directly, and indirect- ' ly these sweeps 'yielded £60,000 annually to the State, and that would be a serious loss. The people would not, appreciate paying treble what they now contributed in ability tax, as they might have to do if Tatters-all's revenue were lost. HobclieTed it was . only a matter of a little time when it must go. Although Tasmania had Tattersall'a it had not betting shops and clubs, and in the State there was little or no crime arising out of gambling.
