Some 200,000 spectators witnessed the motor car race for the Vanderbilt cup, at Long Island, on Saturday. .':" .: > . M. "Wagner, of France, driving a 100 horse-power Darracq car, won, covering 297 miles in four hours 50 seconds. The spectators surged over the course and two were killed. Herr Weilschott, a competitor, lost control over his car, which
plunged over an embankment and through a fence. Weilschott himself and twenty spectators were injured. (Received October 9, 12.44 a.m.) New York, October 8. The spectators of the motor race, cut the wire netting protecting the course, and recklessly refused to move until the cars were almost upon them. The race cost altogether £240,000. Seventy cars were engaged, and they 1 cost £85,000. The American cars i vnre outclassed. Last, year the race was won by M. Hennery, of France, with an 80-h.p. Darraoq.
