The battleship Dreadnought, in her speed trials, attained a speed of. 2l£ knots, and is therefore the fastestbattleship in the world. The speed provided for in the contract for the engines was 20 knots. The highest speed of battleships already in commission is 19.5 knots. This is the speed of the 14,000ton vessels of the Duncan class. The highest speed of the French and German battleships is 18 knots. .The new 19,000-ton German battleships are to have a speed of 19.5 knots. The United States has five battleships that, can steam 19 knots.
