THE BLACK HAND.
DYNAMITE OUTRAGE IN NEW YORK. By Telegraph. Association.—Copyright. New York, September 28. • Members of the Italian Black Hand Society of New York have committed a dynamite outrage at a tenement house owned by Italian bankers. A charge of dynamite was exploded within the house in which the occupants, about a hundred, were asleep. The house was damaged, but nobody was injured, though many had marvellous escapes. The Black Hand Society is an importation from Italy. The,members are Italians who endeavour to live by blackmailing their more prosperous and industrious fellow-coun-trymen. Where tliero is refusal to. pay blackmail outrage or murder soon follows. Several murders by Black Hand members have occurred in the last two or three years in the United States. Some time ago it was reported that in response to public clamour the police we're endeavouring to crush the society, but it is difficult to get at the members owing to the secrecy of their proceedings.
