Sir Wilfrid Laurier replying to the complaint of Mr. Deakin, the Prime Minister of Australia, that his letters to the Canadian Government on the preferential trade question had not been answered, says that immediately on receipt of the letters ho had, taken the practical step of instructing Canada's agent in Australia to open negotiations in the matter.
