20,000 HANDS IDLE. By Telegraph —Press Association— Copyright. Brussels, September 18. The wool-washers at Venders, in Belgium, have struck owing to the details of the apportionment of work in the slack season not being acceptable. The textile manufacturers thereupon decided on a general lockout, and 20,000 men were thus thrown idle. Verviers has been noted for nearly 500 vears for woollen trade.
